PERPETUUM MOBILE

Perpetuum Mobile is a curatorial vehicle which brings together art, practice and enquiry. It acts as a conduit and engine to re-imagine certain basic historical, theoretical as well as practical paradigms in fields which often exist in disparate institutional frames and territories. PM has worked extensively in the Nordic, European and international field.

Perpetuum Mobile develops longer-term thematic projects which come to include conferences, workshops, residencies, small and large exhibitions, festivals, public and street art, publications, films and new formats. PM’s longer-term thematic platforms include the Re-Aligned Project, the Perpetual Pavilion, the Perestroika Project, The Arts Assembly, Artists at Risk, Sino-Fi and Mobile Talks.

SAVVY Contemporary

SAVVY Contemporary | The laboratory of form-ideas is an art space, a platform for discourse and a place of hospitality. It is located on the threshold between concepts of the ‘West’ and the ‘non-West’, in order to understand and deconstruct them. It has carried out numerous projects – exhibitions, performances, film screenings, lectures, concerts, readings, discussion sessions, dance. SAVVY Contemporary has created a participatory archive for German colonial history as well as one for performance art and a library. The art space is concerned with the history and sociopolitical realities of its neighborhood, which are closely intertwined with the reflections and discourses of the project.

SAVVY Contemporary will present the brilliant contemporary positions from Europe and North America in relation to the magnificent art from Africa, South America, Asia or Australia in a face-à-face of “western art” and “non-western art” with all artistic, historical, socio-anthropological, political or economical connotations related to these notions. The aim is to bridge the gap between these alleged fronts and especially to let “world art” be art from all four corners of the world. This is the reason why Berlin needs a new project space.

To serve as an umbrella for the aforementioned topics, SAVVY Contemporary targets, with much zeal and zest, a dynamic art-, culture- and knowledge exchange without the constrictions of an academic corset. To achieve this, outstanding, upcoming national and international artists will be invited to deal with/ treat contemporary questions of interest. Without the claim of providing answers, these artists will use varying media of art (painting, photography, installation, video, sculpture) to formulate comments on these questions, pose new questions, raise awareness to other problems and excite contemplation on them.
