The AR-Residency at Unicorn, Malmö, Sweden, is hosted by UNICORN – Artists in Solidarity as part the Immigré Artists (IA) and Artists at Risk (AR) Nordic Network by Perpetuum Mobilε (PM) funded by Nordic Culture Point. As part of the Artists at Risk (AR) network, it is supported by the AR- Secretariat which is funded by Kone Foundation.
As with all AR-network members, AR-Malmö residents will be given curatorial and administrative support by the local partner, Unicorn, alongside PM and the AR-Secretariat. The residency includes the usual living grant, accommodation, travels, visa and insurance and other practical support.
UNICORN – Artists in Solidarity is a network of artists and cultural workers committed to solidarity in the artist community. By building collegial alliances and initiating conversations on how working conditions and free expression for artists are impacted by political change, they work to counteract reactionary and right-wing politics. They work to support each other in a precarious situation, by studying together, sharing meals and resources, speaking out collectively, organizing locally and sharing knowledge globally. UNICORN – Artists in Solidarity run a residency programme for artists at risk by mobilizing resources from local institutions and artist run spaces. Artists taking part in the residency organized by UNICORN – Artists in Solidarity will find themselves in a supporting collegial context, get access to a apartment, studio, technical equipment and the possibility to produce and present a public programme.
ARTISTS at RISK (AR) is an institution at the intersection of human rights and the arts. AR is dedicated to mapping the field of persecuted visual art practitioners, facilitating their safe passage from their countries of origin and hosting them at “AR-Residencies”.
