RADAR Sofia, an independent art hub located in Bulgaria’s capital, is joining the Artists at Risk (AR) network of AR-Safe Haven Residencies. As part of the AR-Network it will be supported by the AR-Secretariat, funded by Kone Foundation.
The first residency will begin in April 2019 as part of the Immigré Artists (IA) and Artists at Risk (AR) Nordic Network curated by Perpetuum Mobilε (PM) and funded by Nordic Culture Point.
As with all AR-Network members, the residents of AR-Radar Sofia will be given curatorial and administrative support by the local partner, RADAR Sofia, alongside Perpetuum Mobile’s curatorial support and the AR-Secretariat. The residency includes an apartment, a workspace, a monthly grant, travel, visa and insurance costs, limited budget for a production and other practical support.
RADAR Sofia is an independent art hub dedicated to supporting creators. Located in the heart of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, it mainly hosts playwrights, dramaturgs, theatre makers and writers, and with Artists at Risk (AR) it will furthermore provide support to visual and other artists. Radar Sofia aims to lend a helping hand to creators who walk an artistic path off the beaten track.
RADAR Sofia is an artistic platform that seeks to promote new methods and forms of production that engage the audience in dialogue around important contemporary topics. The AR-RADAR Sofia residency aims to support artists who are involved in the world around them, and who are able to artistically interpret the difficulties facing our society on a local and global level. RADAR Sofia welcomes artists with a proven record of resistance to the repressive world in which we live.
It seeks to support projects from at-risk artists, “creators who have been persecuted or censored due to the nature of their work or because of their race, sex, gender, orientation, ethnic origin, religion or political views, or just because.”
ARTISTS at RISK (AR) is an institution at the intersection of human rights and the arts. AR is dedicated to mapping the field of persecuted visual art practitioners, facilitating their safe passage from their countries of origin and hosting them at “AR-Residencies” so that they can continue their practice.
Immigré Artists (IA) and Artists at Risk (AR) is curated by Perpetuum Mobilε (PM) and funded by Nordic Culture Point.
The AR Secretariat is generously funded by Koneen Säätiö – Kone Foundation.
