We are pleased to announce that Artists at Risk (AR) resident Saddam Jumaily (Iraq) will feature—alongside AR co-founders Marita Muukkonen and Ivor Stodolsky—as a guest of the World Village Festival, on a panel chaired by Professor Teivo Teivainen of the University of Helsinki. The panel will take place on 25 May at 14:50 to 15:30 in Kaisaniemi Park, Helsinki and will be entitled Discussions on Immigration: Hosts and Guests.
Painter Saddam Jumaily started part two of his Artists at Risk (AR) Residency with partner and textile artist Kholod Hawash on the island of Suomenlinna in May. They are the first AR-ICORN Safe Haven Helsinki Residents, curated by Perpetual Mobile (PM) and co-hosted with HIAP — Helsinki International Artist Programme.
With the City of Helsinki becoming a member of the International City of Refuge Network (ICORN), one AR-Residency per year is designated as an AR-ICORN Residency, forming an integral part of AR-Safe Haven Helsinki’s longer-term-stay programme. This programme is as always curated by Perpetuum Mobile — PM. It is funded by the Department of Culture and Leisure of the City of Helsinki.
Saddam and Kholod were previously in residence at the AR-Saari Residence funded by Kone Foundation in Mynämäki, Southwest Finland, as part of the joint Artists at Risk (AR) programme with Saastamoinen Foundation.
