Yahaya Aminu Sharif, a 22-year-old musician, has been sentenced to death by a Sharia court in the Northern Nigerian state of Kano for using derogatory expressions against the Prophet Mohammed in one of his songs. Artists at Risk joins Freemuse, European Music Council, International Music Council, International Federation of Actors, Finnish Music Council, Finnish Musicians Union, International Federation of Musicians, Nordic Musicians Union and Safemuse in signing an open letter calling for all charges against Sharif to be dropped.
