The Gagosian Quarterly’s excellent interview with AR on its online site is followed by a remarkable historical piece on “Artist Persecution and Protection” in its print edition, also by Gillian Jakab. Ranging from the trial of Socrates via Josephine Baker and James Baldwin to present-day threats facing artists and creative thinkers, this piece in the Fall 2020 issue of Gagosian Quarterly also gives an overview of institutions active in the field today. Artists at Risk (AR) co-founders Ivor Stodolsky and Marita Muukkonen were interviewed for the article which includes a detailed account of the story behind AR, the recent establishment of the AR Covid-19 Emergency Fund and more.
