Artists at Risk (AR) is pleased to introduce the fourth talk in the AR TALKS series by Marichka Lukianchuk, an artist and a filmmaker from Ukraine whose short films have featured in a number of international film festivals.

Femininity plays an important role in her works which create complex worlds on the interstices of art and psychology. Marichka believes in the importance of “uncovering and connecting archetypal appearances in our times”.

This Thursday, August 18, Lukianchuk will present the hundreds of dreams which she collected in the form of texts from respondents from Ukraine, during the ongoing war of aggression by the Russian Federation. Marichka will also speak about an ongoing short film about the war, revolving around the impact of war on the psyche, which she currently is working on. The presentation will be followed by a discussion about filmmaking in times of war, and Marichka’s own experience as an artist under military siege.

Postcards made from the dreams will be available for sale. All proceeds will go to the charity Poryad Ukraine.

This AR TALK is kindly accommodated by Floating U̶n̶i̶v̶e̶r̶s̶i̶t̶y̶, a self organized space and group, where practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds meet to collaborate, co-create and imaginatively work towards futures. Its mission is to open, maintain, and take care of this unique site while bringing non-disciplinary, radical, and collaborative programs to the public.

This initial Berlin edition of AR TALKS is conceived and moderated by Giorgi Rodionov, an artist and curator, and co-founder of Artists at Risk (AR)-Tbilisi at Untitled Gallery Tbilisi. The edition was launched at Moos, and continues at Floating U̶n̶i̶v̶e̶r̶s̶i̶t̶y̶ where every Thursday, we gather to discuss the risks and challenges art practitioners at risk face in our troubled times.

AR TALKS is a decentralized series which introduces artists, curators, and cultural professionals hosted by AR-Residences, or affiliated with the AR-Network, to a wider audience. It follows in the footsteps of Artists at Risk(AR)/Perpetuum Mobile(PM)’s longstanding MOBILE Talks series.

NB: The next AR TALK will likewise take place at Floating University Berlin, on August 25.
