Season opener: Municipal poet celebrates anniversary of Not Quite with new poem

Not Quite turns 20 this year. The celebrations include the members’ exhibition “Notton Quietetiuq’s curio collection” in July. Saturday is the season opening of the popular visitor centre in Fengersfors.

It has been 20 years since the Not Quite cultural centre opened to the public, in connection with the Art Walk in Dalsland in 2003. Since then, the number of members has increased from ten to more than 70.

The anniversary will not go unnoticed at the old paper mill. Among other things, it will be highlighted in the major members’ exhibition “Notton Quietetiuq’s curio collection”, which will be shown in July.

The members will also have an exhibition in the park at the Dalsland Art Museum in Upperud this summer.

Feminist artist Jessica Fleetwood, who in Not Quite’s early days ran the café where she baked the popular Sara Bernard biscuits, is one of many artists who have been involved since the beginning. She is now helping to open Not Quite for the season with her exhibition on women workers during the Second World War.

Jessica Fleetwood is also the producer of Oleksandra Voronina’s exhibition By inertia. Oleksandra is an artist from Kiev, Ukraine who has been in Fengersfors since June 2022 when she came here as an Artist in Resident through SWAN Residency Network – Artists at Risk.

The Culture School in Åmål is also involved in the season opening. Participants from the branch of the Art School in Fengersfors, where Jessica Fleetwood is a teacher, are showing art in several different materials and techniques, such as forging, ceramics, sculpture and drawing.

Students working in crafts at Kulturskolan, taught by Not Quite member Lova Öberg, will also be showing their creations.

Other exhibitions show abstract paintings by Gothenburg-based artist Malin Årsbog, textiles by Martina Lundkvist and there is also the opportunity to watch Malin Palm and Ida Stelter’s film “Lost Objects On Tour” with objects found in the attic of Strands Snickerier, which Not Quite bought in 2021.

The inaugural speaker at the season opening is Jimmy Alm, also known as the municipal poet. In honour of the day, he will read a newly written poem about and for Not Quite.

Säsongsöppning: Kommunpoeten hyllar jubilerande Not Quite med nyskriven dikt
