Artist at Risk (AR) is very pleased to present Mahdi Hafizi from Herat, Afghanistan as the first AR-artrmx studio Resident.

Hafizi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Painting from the University of Herat, Department of Art, and a Master’s degree in Graphic Design from the University of Tehran.

After the Taliban takeover in August 2021, Hafizi managed to escape Afghanistan and enter Germany. Living in exile has been difficult. Hafizi has succeeded in resuming his artistic activities in Germany and started to think about his social and artistic work and future.

Hafizi is currently working with Western styles and techniques to see how he can use them in his work, ideally by combining artistic elements from his own culture to express himself as not only an Afghan artist but also as an exiled contemporary artist.

Mahdi Hafizi is an Artists at Risk (AR)-Resident at artrmx e.V. The programme is co–funded by Crespo Foundation and co-organised by Perpetuum Mobile (PM) as part of the AR-Network.
