Artists at Risk (AR) is pleased to welcome PEN Zambia, a chapter of PEN International, as one of the new hosting partners in the AR-Network! The organisation has started with two AR-Residents concurrently, supporting them with accommodation, the use of their event spaces, and the ability to continue their creative work at their new residency programme.

Since its establishment in 2003, PEN Zambia has been actively engaged in a wide range of activities including collaborating with local and international organisations to champion artistic freedom and excellence, conducting campaigns to promote freedom of expression, digital literacy, and media freedom. It also advocates for responsive actions from national, regional, and international authorities in repealing laws that hinder freedom of expression.

Two of its regular programmes are ‘The Writers Circle’, a weekly radio program aired on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC), and ‘The African Story Box’, a literacy initiative implemented in 18 schools across Zambia.

PEN Zambia’s dedication to empowering artists and defending civil liberties helps in shaping a more informed and inclusive society, and AR looks forward to a warm working relationship with them!
