Artists at Risk (AR) has safe houses and residencies in India.
AR-India is present in Goa, Kerala, and Kolkata since 2021. Through its network of hosting institutions, AR-India has provided safe spaces, support, and residency opportunities for artists at risk. In Goa, AR partnered with Thus. Critique (Thus.), an independent arts organization dedicated to fostering critical thinking, dialogue, and socially engaged artistic practices through conversations, performances, screenings, and public programs at the intersection of art, activism, innovation, and social issues.

Talk between AR and Thus. Critique, India, 2020. With film maker Q and an activist Vimlendu Jha.
As part of the AR-India network, Thus. welcomed its first AR-Resident in late 2021: Afghan writer, director, and actor Ahmad M. Z. Farghand, as part of the #SaveAfghanArtists campaign. The residency provided him with a safe environment, local hosting and administrative support, as well as curatorial assistance, allowing him to continue his creative practice while rebuilding stability away from threats and uncertainty.
