Today marks a sombre anniversary. It has been two years since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. We have been steadfast in our mission to protect and assist artists worldwide. The collective effort for Ukraine is unprecedented. Since 24 February 2022, Artists at Risk (AR) has organised 602 fully-funded, minimum 3-month AR-Residencies: 502 artists and cultural workers fleeing Ukraine to other countries, and a further 100 principals (i.e. not counting family) within Ukraine.
We wish to express our everlasting gratitude to our dedicated team members, hundreds of partner-hosts, new and old friends and colleagues and, of course, our donors. The initiative stands as a testament to our collective efforts!
However, it is with great regret that we announce the current **end of our funding capacity for Ukraine** until further notice. All major funding programmes have now been closed: UNESCO, Goethe-Institut, SWAN — Swedish Artist Residency Network, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Teiger Foundation. Further generous donations from the Schauspielhaus Zürich, European Cultural Foundation, Art Basel, Between Bridges, MitOst e.V., Zentrum Paul Klee, and many more, have been exhausted.
On this anniversary, we wish to make public our urgent appeal to major and minor donors alike to consider supporting and safeguarding artistic life and freedom in Ukraine.
