Premiere of ‘The Apple Day’ by renowned Iranian filmmaker Mahmoud Ghaffari

Also present at the ARTISTS AT RISK PAVILION in Venice was renowned Iranian filmmaker Mahmoud Ghaffari. Ghaffari is an AR-Resident in Barcelona as part of Artists at Risk (AR) – A European Network of Safe Havens (ENSH), a Creative Europe Network Project funded by the European Union, in cooperation with the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona CCCB and No Callarem.
On 24 April 2024, his film ‘The Apple Day’ (2022) will premiere at CCCB, followed by a discussion with the director, screenwriter Mahnaz Jarchi, film expert Jordi Balló and journalist Zahida Membrado Besson. Mahnaz Jarchi is also an AR-Resident and spoke on a panel at the opening of the AR Pavilion.
‘The Apple Day’ was nominated for the Generation Kplus section of the Berlinale in 2022 and portrays the everyday life of a family in a suburb of Tehran, offering a sensitive yet critical look at the social and political reality in Iran. Finished shortly after the start of the Women, Life, Freedom movement, the presentation of the film at the Berlinale meant the exile of its director and screenwriter.
