‘Artists at Risk Encounters’ Seminar at CCCB

The second part of ‘Artists at Risk Encounters’ was held on 21 June, also in the context of the CCCB‘s Orwell Days.
The two panels featuring Cèlia Carbonell (Iridia — Centre de Defensa de Drets Humans), Elgio (Singer, Sabadell), Khanda Hameed (Cultural manager, Kurdistan), Nabaz Samad (Art critic and translator, Kurdistan), Shareef Sarhan (Artist, Palestine), Fernando Paniagua (No Callarem), Marita Muukkonen (Artists at Risk — AR), Ivor Stodolsky (Artists at Risk — AR), Rosa Cerarols (Curator, konvent.zero), Helge Lunde (Director, Red International Cities of Refuge Network, ICORN), Gemma Rodríguez (Persecuted Writer’s Programme, PEN Català) and Elisabet Goula (CCCB) discussed the current situation of artists who have suffered censorship or political persecution and reflected on new strategies and approaches by individuals and cultural institutions alike. Other participants included Pari Banu Asgar (Artist and performer, Azerbaijan), Thais Bonilla (Journalist, Novact), Albert Costa (Trumpeter, No Callarem and Sindicat de Músics), Mahmoud Ghaffari (Film director, Iran), Janina Hilberer (ZKM — Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe), Mahnaz Jarchi (Scriptwriter, Iran), Ahmed Mourad Khanfir (Founder of Art Veda cultural association, Tunisia) and Slava Ptrk (Artist, Russia).
Artists at Risk Encounters is part of the Creative Europe project Artists at Risk (AR) — A European Network of Safe Havens (AR-ENSH), which brings together the CCCB, ZKM, ArtVeda and Perpetuum Mobile — PM/Artists at Risk (AR).
