The Schauspielhaus Zürich held a unique Solidarity Event with a wide range of figures affiliated to Artists at Risk (AR) on the 26th of May, 2024, as a wonderful go-away gift to AR from the outgoing directorship. Huge thanks go to the outgoing team of the Schauspielhaus Zurich, and especially Katinka Deecke and her directorship and team!!
One of the most prominent theatres in the German-speaking world, the cutting-edge leadership of Schauspielhaus Zürich made a decision, over two years ago, to independently collect and support and donate to Artists at Risk (AR). Remarkable sums have been collected and donated, with quarterly transfers of tens of thousands of euros!
Aside from their amazing funding drives, the Schauspielhaus Zürich initiated the CONVERSATIONS WITH ARTISTS AT RISK (AR), which has already carried out three extensive interviews with AR-Residents: https://bit.ly/ARxSSHconversations
For the Solidarity Event, Schauspielhaus opened its main ‘Pfauen’ stage for an event with AR-Residents, affiliates and the directors of Artists at Risk (AR), to celebrate our cooperation and raise awareness of our work in Switzerland. During the events, AR was honoured to meet the incoming team of the Schauspielhaus Zurich, who expressed the wish to continue our important work together.
The event began with a panel discussion on the connection between art and war, including:
– Members of Fo Sho, the African-Ukrainian hip-hop trio + DJ, recently declared « future superstars » by Republik Magazin following their performance at the AR Pavilion on the occasion of the Venice Biennale
– Aws Al-Zubaïdy, a Palestinian actor and director currently living in Switzerland
– Slava Ptrk, the renowned Russian visual/urban artist
Ivor Stodolsky and Marita Muukkonen, AR’s Co-Directors
FO SHO then rocked the Pfauen with a world-class concert. Amazing!
