Cut the cuts! The Finnish Government’s drastic budget cuts to arts funding threaten our right to culture, affecting not only artists but the wellbeing of society as a whole. Arts and culture enrich our daily lives through performances, design, museums, films, and more. They foster creativity, innovation, and community. Cutting funding will weaken Finland’s cultural identity, damage international reputation, and endanger thousands of jobs in the creative sector.

“The proposed cuts in the funding for culture will endanger the development of our whole society. The Government’s proposed cuts are vast and seriously at odds with the objectives of the Government programme” says the independent team behind the campaign.

Without proper funding, cultural institutions, artists, and programmes will struggle to survive, limiting access to art for all. Arts and culture is more than just entertainment – it’s about shared identity, economic growth, and a vibrant future for the next generation. These short-sighted cuts are already having great impacts: grant funding is shrinking, and some museums, like the Seurasaari Open-Air Museum, are planning to close their doors.
