We are proud to share NKYINKYIM: Screening & album launch by multidisciplinary artist and AR-Resident Oteanankanduro (Ato Kwamina Hasford) and filmmaker James Marcellinus Wormenor at the Helsinki-based Myymälä2 gallery.
Friday, 17 January 2025, 17.00–20.00
Myymälä2, Helsinki
The event features the screening of Dua Due, a short film inspired by Oteanankanduro’s album Nkyinkyim. The project blends music, storytelling, and activism to explore themes of identity, solidarity, and resilience. Born from a conversation between Oteanankanduro and James Marcellinus Wormenor, Dua Due transforms traditional Ghanaian music and storytelling into a contemporary visual narrative that reflects on cultural heritage and self-discovery.
The screening is followed by a discussion with Oteanankanduro, James Marcellinus Wormenor, and collaborators joining from Ghana, Lithuania, and Spain.
Oteanankanduro, the healer of snakebites, is a Ghanaian multidisciplinary artist and activist. He is currently an AR-Resident in Helsinki, Finland using the mediums of text, music, film and theater, to call for safety, freedom and justice for the marginalized. He identifies as ‘Experimental, Vocal, Nostalgic and Queer’. Nkyinkyim marks the conclusion of Oteanankanduro’s residency in Helsinki as an AR-SHH Resident, celebrating Ghanaian traditions, queer activism, and cultural preservation.
