The Pan-African Network for Artistic Freedom (PANAF) Summit, founded by Selam, aims to advance artistic freedom across the African continent and beyond by bringing together artists, cultural producers, policymakers, and human rights activists. Our Directors Ivor Stodolsky and Marita Muukkonen were honoured to attend its second edition in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
Entitled ‘Art, Civic Engagement, and Movement Building’, the Summit focused on collective strategies for countering censorship, building networks, and strengthening support for at-risk artists.
AR participated in the diverse conversations on artistic freedom and policy in Africa and beyond. PANAF was a great opportunity for AR to strengthen ties with partners on the continent, as well as forge new partnerships in Tanzania.
Thank you to the Swedish Arts Council’s (SAC) Artistic Freedom Programme for inviting us and funding AR’s work in the Global South!
