We are thrilled to share that the art installation ‘The Voice of Women Is the Voice of Freedom’ by Artists at Risk (AR)-residents Khanda Hameed and Nabaz Samad will open to the public on Friday, March 28, 2025, at ZKM Karlsruhe!
In ‘The Voice of Women Is the Voice of Freedom’, Hameed and Samad focus on the special role women play in the ongoing struggle to preserve the Kurdish language and identity in their homeland of Iraq. They explore the structural connections between the oppression of women, language, and culture in order to highlight the resilience of Kurdish women, and through them, the Kurdish language.
Hameed and Samad are current AR-residents at ZKM. The installation has been created in collaboration with AR and curated by Philipp Ziegler. It is part of the multifaceted and dynamic exhibition space at ZKM called ‘Fellow Travellers’, which brings artists, scientists, communities, and citizens together to collaborate and learn from each other.
Friday, 28 March 2025, 16:00–18:00 CET
