We’re thrilled to welcome four powerful voices from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to our AR-Safe Haven Zanzibar Entertainment Foundation (AR-ZAEF). The DRC faces ongoing conflict, displacement, and humanitarian crises, particularly in North Kivu. Armed groups and violence exacerbate food insecurity and displacement, impacting millions.

Over 90 days, these artists will collaborate across disciplines to create new work rooted in memory, resistance, and cultural dialogue.

A bold voice in contemporary theatre, William challenges conventional aesthetics to create art that transcends, questions, disturbs, and mobilises. Based in Goma, he has led productions across Africa and Europe. In residency, he’ll explore oral traditions and different art forms to craft work that bridges ancestral heritage and modern expression.

Actor, playwright, and cultural operator Boniface uses theatre as a tool for peace and resilience. With @LesAttaquants Theatre in Goma, his performances tackle political and social realities in Kivu. In Zanzibar, he is developing a multidisciplinary piece on humanism during crisis.

Contemporary dancer and choreographer, Alain blends krump, traditional Congolese dance, and physical storytelling. As artistic director of MISISA Company, he uses dance to uplift orphaned children and promote Congolese culture. In residency, he aims to deepen his practice and advocate for dance as a powerful form of expression.

A soulful singer-songwriter, Bénédicte blends Afro-folk with East African and Kivu sounds. With her heartfelt voice and socially engaged lyrics, she’s building a repertoire rooted in memory and resistance. During her residency, she’s composing Taraji, a project exploring hope through cross-cultural traditions.
