Artists at Risk (AR) is proud to welcome Osama Khalid to Spain, where he is currently in residence at No Callarem – Artistes en Risc Barcelona.

Osama is a visual artist from Sudan who works primarily in fine arts and especially painting. Prior to the outbreak of war in April 2023, he was an active participant in Sudan’s art scene, exhibiting and producing his art, creating a body of work which addresses themes of identity, loss, and survival.

When the conflict escalated, Osama was forced to flee, leaving behind his studio, community, and materials. Despite these hardships, he continued his artistic practice on his successful relocation to Barcelona.

Now, as part of his AR-Residency at No Callarem, Osama is rebuilding his practice in a safe and supportive environment. His story is a testament to the resilience of artists working under repression and to the importance of cross-border solidarity in times of crisis.

We are excited to see what Osama will create during his time in Barcelona and are honoured to support him on this new chapter on his journey.
