Artists at Risk (AR) is delighted to welcome Cultural Traffic, a Kharkiv-based NGO, as a new hosting partner in our global network supporting artists at risk.

Founded to support artistic and research-driven practices, Cultural Traffic has been active since 2021, organizing residencies, exhibitions, research projects, walks, and heritage preservation initiatives that reinforce knowledge of local culture and support cultural actors in eastern Ukraine.

Slow River House is an art residency located in a rural area near Kharkiv, offering a space for both focused work and recovery. Designed as a retreat from the city, it allows residents to slow down, develop ongoing or new projects, conduct research, experiment with techniques, or take time to rest. The residency encourages engagement with the surrounding natural landscape—rivers, forests, fields, and historical sites—while remaining closely connected to the local community and context.

With a strong focus on supporting cultural actors from eastern Ukraine, Slow River House also welcomes artists from other regions and international practitioners whose work relates to local culture and who are aware of the realities of working in border regions.

We’re proud to partner with Cultural Traffic and Slow River House, and to support their vital work with artists in challenging circumstances.
