FROM RISK TO RESILIENCE: Thank you 2025

… and launching the AR VIRTUAL RESIDENCY in 2026

With the entire post-WWII framework for peace and democracy at risk, Artists at Risk (AR) enters 2026 with both trepidation and excitement. 2025 foreshadowed this with continued budget cuts, and a rising number of applications. Looking back, in 2025:

📝  1,302 artists at risk applied for support

🌍 172 artists (plus dependents) were supported globally

🏠 85 artists (plus dependents) benefited from AR/ER Residencies, at a minimum of three months stays, with many for 6 months, some for twelve months, and some for longer

🚨 82 high-priority cases were given substantial administrative support

📌 189 cases are currently prioritized and in process for AR support

🌱 Growing the green ER-Network

In late 2025, Perpetuum Mobile (PM) launched the first Ecologists at Risk (ER) Network in Latin America! The focus of our work at the intersection of art, ecology and human rights grows stronger. Bogotá was a turning point. Updates coming soon! 🗓️

🔭 2026: AR Virtual Pavilion and the VIRTUAL RESIDENCY

Physical borders shouldn’t silence creative resilience. This is why we are on the cusp of launching the new AR VIRTUAL RESIDENCY. This residency will take place within the virtual space of the AR Virtual Pavilion, the digital replica of our celebrated AR Pavilion that opened on the occasion of the Venice Biennale. This AR Virtual Pavilion is live and alive, and growing as a borderless curatorial infrastructure for art related to the AR/ER Network.
