Biography

Alain Bazamuka, also known as Brown Messia, is a contemporary dancer, choreographer, and founder of MISISA Company. Originally from Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, his artistic practice blends krump, traditional Congolese movement, and contemporary dance to explore resilience, memory, and social transformation, often creating space for vulnerable and marginalized communities.

Alain completed his AR residency in 2025 at Zanzibar Entertainment Foundation. After returning to Bukavu, he continued working under difficult social and security conditions, remaining committed to artistic creation despite regional instability and personal challenges. Drawing on his residency experience, he organized the Kwasa Kwasa Urban Dance Battle at Espace Culturel Kwetu Art in Bukavu, supporting young dancers from the region through competitions across Afro Dance, Hip-Hop, Krump, and Break Dance categories.

Through his work, Alain views dance as more than performance but as resistance, hope, and survival. He continues developing community dance initiatives and choreographic projects that strengthen artistic opportunities for young creators in Eastern DRC.
