Mariia Zhuravel is a Ukrainian artist and illustrator based in the city of Kyiv, currently studying in a master’s program on memory studies and public history.
The theme of her works after 2022 is the altered reality during the war and the invisible pillar of inner strength in these conditions, resilience, which she depicts through urban landscapes or nature. The motifs of trees in her works become a metaphor for identity, which allows one to maintain agency even during the greatest trials. She predominantly uses painting (acrylic, watercolor) and digital illustration as her mediums.

Zhuravel also creates illustrations for media, cultural platforms and non-profit organizations; in particular, she has collaborated with such publications and organizations as Republik Swiss, TEDxKyiv, NGO Barrier-free, The Arc and others.
Her works have been presented in group exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad, specifically in cultural projects in the Netherlands (Delft), the USA (New York) and Italy (Zafferana Etnea).
