AR-Resident Hanie Rahimian

Hanie Rahimian (born 1995) is an Iranian visual artist who completed her Master’s degree in Painting at Alzahra University in Tehran. After finishing her studies, she entered the professional art scene and is currently in ongoing collaboration with Gallery SOV in Tehran. She has participated in several solo and group exhibitions in Tehran, Dubai, and other cities across Iran.

In recent years, her practice has shifted primarily toward sculpture and installation. Since the beginning of her professional career, she has created her works in collaboration with her close friend and colleague, Shiva Abazariyan, and all of their sculptures to date have been the result of this ongoing artistic partnership. For her, this collaboration is not merely a professional cooperation, but an extension of a shared lived experience as two female artists within the social and cultural context of Iran.

She grew up and lived in Mashhad, one of the most religious cities in Iran a context whose cultural, social, and ideological structures have profoundly shaped her perspective on the body, identity, femininity, and social existence. This lived experience, both consciously and unconsciously, remains present in her work and has become an inseparable part of her visual language.

Living in Iran, within an atmosphere continuously shaped by social and political tensions as well as unpredictable events, has led her to employ a metaphorical language in her practice a language deeply rooted in Iranian culture and literature. Through an ironic and at times darkly humorous tone, she seeks to reflect both the personal and collective conditions of her time.
