We are delighted to invite you to “Diary: Between Loss and Light,” an intimate and moving exhibition by Ukrainian artist and AR-Helsinki Alumna Olena Lakhai. Through this interesting body of work, Lakhai shares a visual journey shaped by displacement, memory, and the quiet resilience of healing.

Through emotive family portraits and evocative landscapes of Finnish nature, Lakhai’s work reflects on the quiet heroism of caregiving, the ache of separation, and the tender moments of light that persist through personal and collective upheaval.

Having arrived in Helsinki with her two children and no art materials, Lakhai began painting as a means of survival and expression—channeling grief into color and silence into texture. Her self-portraits and images of her husband and children act as quiet acts of remembrance, while her landscapes—deeply inspired by the forests and rock formations of the Central Park in Helsinki—offer meditations on time, resilience, and the grace found in nature.

This exhibition is both a diary and a testament: a deeply personal tribute to family, home, and the power of creativity to endure and illuminate.

You are warmly welcome to the exhibition opening on November 11 at 17!
