The first two weeks of November are a dark time in Finland, in the literal sense. Arriving from much brighter climes Angela Aldebs, AR-Resident at AR-Safe Haven Helsinki, has developed a new outdoor dance performance entitled “Dark Reflections” in Kokkola, Western Finland.
In this piece Aldebs from Damascus, Syria, reflects on the darkness of the Finnish winter, contrasting it with her experience of home – a large, densely populated city rarely found in “natural” darkness. Aldebs translates her lived experiences of darkness and light into movement to share her reflections with the audience.
Location: Pitkänsillankatu 29, Kokkola
Dates: Friday, 13th November at 6pm / Saturday, 14th November at 6pm
(A segment of the performance will also be staged indoors at the Kokkola Jymy autumn show at Hollihaka school on Sunday, 15th November at 2 and 5 pm)
You can also find Angela rehearsing outdoors during the darker hours of the day from November 2nd – 13th at the same venue.
Welcome!
Free entry (no reservations required). “Dark Reflections” is a ‘Covid-19 safe’ contemporary dance performance. Please keep a safe distance!
“Dark Reflections” is supported by the regional centre for dance in Ostrobothnia and co-organised by Kokkolan Talvitanssit.
