Anastasiya Yevchenko is a Ukrainian theatre and film screenwriter, playwright, director, producer and co-founder of the NGO « New Ukrainian Drama ».
In 2018, Yevchenko participated in an intensive acting programme at Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York and, in 2021, graduated from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre, along with minors in Producing and in Film. Yevchenko has been acting and directing since 2016.
Yevchenko received the “Best Director of a Short Film” award at World Cinema Antwerp in 2021 and the “Best First Time Director of the Year” award at the Top Shorts Film Festival in 2020. She was a laureate of the national programme Person of The Year in 2006 and nominated as Young Talent of The Year in Kyiv, Ukraine, in 2007.
Before the outbreak of the full-scale war in Ukraine, Yevchenko was writing, directing and producing an immersive, interactive, site-specific, surrealist theatre production based on Salvador Dalí’s only novel, Hidden Faces. The theatre production Cachés: clé à Dalí (Hidden: Key to Dalí) was scheduled to premiere in Kyiv at the end of March, 2022, but the project has temporarily stopped. With unexpected parallels between 20th-century Europe and contemporary Ukraine, prophetic passages of the novel and the enigmatic art of Salvador Dalí, the project gained more poignancy and actuality in light of current events. Yevchenko is working on bringing the project to London.
Anastasiya Yevchenko is an ARTISTS at RISK (AR)-UNESCO Resident at Glass Half Full Productions in London, UK, with the support of the UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund and the UNESCO-Aschberg Programme for Artists and Cultural Professionals.
