BIO

Andrii Lutsyk started drawing at the end of 2022. He attended evening sessions of drawing from nature and quickly realized that he had developed an addiction to it. While previously studying at the Tavri Lyceum of Arts, Lutsyk received a good foundation. He found that he was lucky to have teachers such as Oleksandr Drobotko, a Kherson artist and master of decorative coinage, and Oleksandr Tanasiuk, a student of the famous Vitaly Alikberov. It took him almost a year to recover his skills.

He painted and exhibited works on Sil-Sol, which is an affordable and popular Ukrainian platform for artists where artists can sell works and receive free feedback from gallerist, artist and critic Yevhen Karas. He has now created several series of works and published them on the platform, and is planning new exhibitions, projects and collaborations.

Projects created during the residency period

During the residency, Lutsyk completed a series of graphic works titled, «Choice of the Body» and started on a new series of works. He has also finished preparations for an exhibition titled, «Another Life». The project combines two themes of artistic research, the first being the subject of art — which is the author of the works who observes the process of self-awareness as an artist and examines changes in approaches to creativity in the process of conceptual and technical growth. The second is the study of the object of art — the aesthetics of the human body, with the help of graphic reinterpretations of an academic drawing of a model.

This programme is organized by Perpetuum Mobile (PM) as part of the Artists at Risk (AR)-Network in partnership with UNESCO and with the support of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Teiger Foundation.
