BIO

Hennadii Izhytskyi is a journalist by education and writer by vocation. He is the author of several popular science books on history and reports on the lives of Kharkiv residents during the civil war between 1917-1919.

Story of experience of risk, relocation and/or exile

Izhytskyi and his partner have been living in the city of Kharkiv since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The city was under constant artillery and rocket fire. This situation not only greatly hindered creative activity, but also posed a direct threat to life.

Projects created during the residency period

During the residency, Izhytskyi produced “Tales of Wartime”, a collection of allegorical short stories where the main characters are objects related to war. The personalities, actions and relationships of the characters are analogous to the real properties of the objects. The literary connection between reality and fairy tales is made through irony and wordplay.
