Olena Morozova is a photographer and visual artist from Ukraine.

She had this to say about her residency:

“I would like to say thank you very much for the opportunity to spend a winter in Poland. In Ukraine, it is very difficult this winter without heat, water and electricity. In addition, my father died recently and my mother is in the hospital. It was very difficult and I needed a change of scenery to feel better. I have no income now and your grant is a great help for me and my children.

The children and I are slowly adapting. Now the school holidays have started and I can devote more time to my creative work. I am working on a genetic-themed project. My grandmother told me a very interesting story about my ancestors, which will be the basis for my project. I plan to create a photographic history using my family archive photos, collage techniques and photo embroidery.

I have also been filming my reflections on events in Ukraine since the beginning of the war. And two projects have already taken shape. I was even invited to participate in an exhibition at the end of February 2023 with one of my new projects. Art is what helps me to take my mind off my sad thoughts and to continue to get a taste of life.”

Olena Morozova is an ARTISTS at RISK (AR)-UNESCO Resident at Fundacja Edukacji Wizualnej (Foundation of Visual Education) in Poland with the support of the UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund and the UNESCO-Aschberg Programme for Artists and Cultural Professionals.
