Kholod Hawash is a self-taught textile artist. Her work is inspired by the heritage and archaeological landscapes of the region she comes from in Iraq. Its bold symbols and forms convey strong local narratives. Kholod has participated in many group exhibitions in Iraq and Jordan as well as having held solo shows at Jacaranda Gallery (2010) and Dar Al Anda Gallery (2018) in Jordan. In Europe she has shown her work at Rankka Gallery, Helsinki, Galleria Ars Libera, Kuopio as part of Äitini nimi – My Mother’s Name a joint exhibition with her husband Saddam Jumaily, and Galerie Premier Regard, Paris, amongst others.

Saddam Jumaily is an Iraqi painter and sculptor with a significant following in his country, where he is known for works that use symbolism to deal with memory and nostalgia. As well as being a respected painter and draughtsman, Jumaily is an cultural critic, editor, and was a columnist for an Iraqi newspaper. His solo exhibitions include Just a Name, Amman, Jordan and What Happens Always, Boushahri art gallery, Kuwait in 2018. His works are collected by collectors and museums, including the British Museum in London. His most recent exhibition was Äitini nimi – My Mother’s Name in Kuopio, Finland, a joint exhibition with his wife Kholod Hawash.
