Helsingin Sanomat Foundation donates 30,000 euros to support Russian journalists

In this way, the foundation wants to help Russian journalists, many of whom have been forced to leave their homeland, to be able to work freely.

The Helsingin Sanomat Foundation has allocated 30,000 euros to organise safe housing for Russian journalists in Finland.

The money will be channelled through Artists at Risk, an international organisation that helps journalists and artists fleeing persecution and war.

In this way the foundation wants to support Russian journalists, many of whom have been forced to flee their homeland.

– One of the Helsingin Sanomat Foundation’s missions is to defend freedom of speech and press freedom. The Russian authorities have made it practically impossible for independent media and journalists to work. Journalists can face up to 15 years in prison for publishing “fake news” about the war. We want to show our support and provide concrete help to Russian journalists who are forced to leave their country to be able to do their work without fear,” the foundation said on its website.
