Alexey Yudnikov and Sasha Denisova rehearse for a new play, premiering at CCCB, Barcelona, in March

AR-Barcelona Residents, actor Alexei Yudnikov and screenwriter and director Sasha Denisova, were interviewed about their new play and making art in the time of war, which aired on BeTevé in Spain. Watch the programme:

Denisova’s play, in which Yudnikov acts, is inspired by the story of her mother, 81-year-old Olga Ivanovna, who refused to leave the family home in Kyiv when the war in Ukraine broke out. In the play, called My Mother and the Invasion on a Large Scale, Denisova and Yudnikov tell the stories of civilians whose lives are shaped by the conflict. Yudnikov will be the only actor on stage and will play nearly twenty characters.

The artistic duo are now rehearsing the joint production that they’ve developed during their residency at the Fabra & Coats creative space provided by Institut de Cultura de Barcelona (ICUB) and the Barcelona Municipality. The play will be presented at the CCCB – Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona in March. Both artists are currently AR-Barcelona Residents, the former as an AR-ENSH Resident co-hosted by the CCCB, the latter as an AR-UNESCO Resident.
