We are overjoyed to welcome Story Villa in Heinävaara as our AR-Finland Network partner. They offer artists residency in the Finnish countryside.

Story Villa is located in an old Finnish village school. The two-story log building built in 1908 on the side of Kylätie, is a culturally-historically valuable building conservation site. Now there are two bright workspaces in the former classrooms with high ceilings. The ambient beauty of the house has three rooms for residents, the common spaces include a kitchen and living areas.

The residency is perfect for visual artists, but also for other professionals in the creative field. The spacious classrooms of the old school can be used as workspaces for music, theatre and dance professionals. The peaceful milieu also offers the perfect setting for a writer, researcher, producer or craftsman.

Story Villa’s doors are open for creative work all year round. The setting is homely and cozy. The house has geothermal heat, as Story Villa values recycling and the principles of sustainable development, which are the guidelines in everyday life at the residency.

During the first summer, the Residency offered Ukrainian artists a quiet period to rest and work. In cooperation with the Artists at Risk (AR), six artists worked in the residency for four months.
