Artists at Risk (AR) is thrilled to share that AR-Alumna Delaine Le Bas’ acclaimed work Incipit Vita Nova. Here Begins The New Life/A New Life Is Beginning is on display at Tate Britain in London as part of the Turner Prize 2024 exhibition. Le Bas’ work was nominated for the prestigious Turner Prize earlier this year. The exhibition was launched on 25 September and will run until 16 February 2025. The Turner Prize is awarded annually to a British artist for an ‘outstanding exhibition or other presentation’ of their work.

Delaine Le Bas, alongside her late husband Damian Le Bas, was the force behind the Perpetuum Romani-Gypsy Pavilion in Venice (2009). Le Bas has held several exhibitions in Helsinki such as Gypsy Revolution in 2012, participated in the Artists at Risk (AR) Pavilion – Mass Memory Machines in Helsinki as well as the Artists at Risk Pavilion. Artists. Risks. Humans. Rights. at UNESCO Venice on the occasion of the Venice Biennale, all curated by Perpetuum Mobile (PM).

Her recent projects have included major exhibitions such as ‘Radical Landscapes’ at Tate Liverpool (2022) and ‘The House of Le Bas’ at Whitechapel Gallery (2023). Her work was also featured in the Artists at Risk (AR) Pavilion at the Venice Biennale this year.

Incipit Vita Nova spans three rooms showcasing Le Bas’ monumental creations. Her works, featuring painted fabrics, costumes, and sculptures, fully immerse viewers in the experience. The exhibition delves into the rich history and mythology of the Roma people.

AR would like to congratulate the Turner prize winner Jasleen Kaur, who won for her work Alter Altar. We also extend our congratulations to the other shortlisted artists Pio Abad and Claudette Johnson for this incredible honour!
