As we mark 12 years of Artists at Risk (AR) and over 949 artists hosted from our inception until the end of last year, we’re proud to celebrate the achievements of 2024 with our partners and followers – and share a glimpse of what’s ahead in 2025!

🌍 99 resident artists supported globally in 2024!

In spite of receiving significant cuts to funding, we were able to sustain vital AR-Networks and successfully relocate almost 100 artists from across the world:

🔸 31 Ukrainian artists hosted in the AR Ukraine-Internal Network (16) and the AR-Finland Network (15)

🔸 34 Afghan artists received substantive financial (6) or administrative and legal (28) support

🔸 7 Russian dissidentartists found a safe creative space at international AR-Residences

🔸 27 artists from around the world – including Sudan, Palestine, DR Congo, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe – have received substantive support from AR’s Global Team and AR-Residences.

And, a sneak peek of what’s to come:

📱 Following the resounding success of our Artists at Risk Pavilion. ARTISTS. RISKS. HUMANS. RIGHTS. with the support of UNESCO at last year’s Venice Biennale – we are scheduling the launch of theVirtual Pavilion where you can visit and support artists at risk and their artwork in a new format.

🌱 Perpetuum Mobile (PM) is growing: As the climate emergency continues to shape our future globally, PM is bringing an increased focus to the Ecologists at Risk (ER) Network – working at the intersection of art, activism, and the environment. Stay tuned as we ramp up our work in this space!

Thank you to all our hosts, partners, and supporters for standing with global artists in times of crisis.

Special thanks to our funders: Swedish Arts Council, Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nordic Culture Fund, Finnish Ministry of Education & Culture, TAIKE-Arts, Creative EU, UNESCO, The Andy Warhol Foundation, Nordic Culture Point, and Crespo Foundation.
