Earlier this year, ERforS hosted Pamela – a photographer from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) – as the first AR-resident as part of a new ongoing partnership. After initially studying journalism, Pamela graduated from the Market Photo Workshop school of photography in Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2019. Her work focuses primarily on expressions of female identity. She has previously worked as a contributor to Agence France-Presse and was artist-in-residence in 2020 in WIELS, the centre for Contemporary Art in Brussels, Belgium. The same year she won the Dior Photography & Visual Arts Award for Young Talents 2020.

Following her ERforS residency this spring, an exhibition at the Wiels AFFILIATE space showcased Pamela’s most recent work, maliDICTION – the result of two photographic series focusing on the social and economic injustices committed against her community in Goma and Manono, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, linked to the region’s industrial and technological development.

Founded in 2005, ERforS is a Drogenbos-based interdependent art initiative creating events, residencies, research projects and exhibitions worldwide – putting context and ideas before the medium and breaking down barriers between art, science, and activism.

Artists at Risk (AR) works with over 300 host residencies as part of a mondial network of partners – which have supported over 1,100 artists to date – and it’s always exciting to welcome new partners on board and grow our impact internationally.

💫 We are thrilled to welcome ERforS, Enough Room for Space, to the Artists at Risk (AR) residence network, and excited to collaborate to support artists under threat and spark meaningful change through art!

🎨 We wish Pamela great success in her future artistic journey! Stay posted for updates on Pamela and our other resident-artists future exhibitions and showcases!
