BIO

Don Anna is a self-taught artist who started focusing on ceramics two years ago. Working in collaboration with another artist, her works have previously been presented in private galleries in Kyiv.

Due to the war, Anna lost her workshop and had to restart all her activities. She had to move inland to a less dangerous area and lost her mental stability. Experiencing constant stress and fear, she needed to stop, recover and regain strength for further work.

Projects created during the residency period

During her residency, she collected samples of local soil, rock and limestone in order to feel a connection with the land and the nature of the area she was in. The samples inspired her and she then used them in her work. She applied the ceramic technique of engoba painting, which is the painting of clay with pigments. She recalls that it quite easy to paint rocks with limestone in Bakota, and found the results interesting and beautiful.

This programme is organized by Perpetuum Mobile (PM) as part of the Artists at Risk (AR)-Network in partnership with UNESCO and with the support of Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Teiger Foundation.
