BIO

Nykytchenko Valeriia graduated from the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in 2018 and the Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy in 2021.

Story of experience of risk, relocation and/or exile

Artist’s account: During the war chat, I visited one of the safest areas of the city of Kharkov – North Saltivka. There, my family experienced a lot of shelling. My apartment came from a non-residential camp, through which I went to Uzhgorod, lived there one year, and then turned back to Kharkov. Arriving home, I fell into depression due to the shelling and the inability to return to my apartment. I went to a psychotherapist and began to fight apathy. When my apartment moves to the station for renovation, my last days turned into apathy, which subsequently passes. In addition, the residence also made me happier and more confident.

Projects created during the residency period

During the resideny, Valeriia worked on a series of works about her love for drawing colourful portraits, abstract shapes, and flowers.
