Oleksanda Lytvyn is a Ukrainian physical theatre dancer, performer and choreographer. She says this about herself:

“I am a freelance performative artist, and I am grateful to be accepted by BABEL – Cultural Organization as they connected me with Academia de Dança de Alcobaça (Dance Academy, Alcobaça): https://www.academiamalcobaca.com/pt/academia-de-danca.

Having a living grant from Artists at Risk allowed me to experiment and collaborate with this school 2 days per week, and I have been supporting the academy’s educational activities. Since the beginning of my artistic career, I have been focused on the dissemination and implementation of equality and diversity through art, and I was selected by the School of Equal Opportunities as a performer for social theatre exchange based on refugee topics. Recently, I was selected as one of the emerging choreographers from Austria, Poland and Ukraine.

Since September I was looking for hosting opportunities in Portugal and luckily I found this space which allows me to keep creating under comfortable conditions that were created for my work in the residence, the necessary materials were provided. Despite the stress experienced during the occupation in my city and  moving to another country, I was able to fully implement all my artistic projects at the proper level, so I am deeply grateful to AR, Unesco and the hosting institutions  which support me with accommodation and studio space. BABEL provides, in collaboration with other institutions a variety of artist residency,s and workshops and i am working in collaboration with other artists who are stimulus to improve and keep moving, even in the darkest times.”

Oleksandra Lytvyn is an ARTISTS at RISK (AR)-UNESCO Resident at Babel Cultural Organization, Portugal, with the support of the UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund and the UNESCO-Aschberg Programme for Artists and Cultural Professionals.
