BIO

Oleksandr Vinnyk was born in 1978 and studied at KhDHU, KhDADM. A member of the HONSHU artists’ union since 2008, he has showcased his works in several solo and collective exhibitions, art residencies and public spaces.

Story of experience of risk, relocation and/or exile

Vinnyk lived in Kharkiv, 30 km away from the front line and recalls how rockets flew in from Russia every day. There was a real threat to life, and he found that resting for two months and working in western Ukraine provided at least a little recovery.

Projects created during the residency period

During his residency, Vinnyk worked on a project which was dedicated to his son and himself. At the beginning of the war, when Russia used S-300 air missiles which are internationally prohibited, the artist sent his family to Europe but remained in Ukraine as men were not allowed abroad. Half a year later, his wife filed for divorce. He was very upset and worried about his son, which is why his project is about the relationship of support between them.

This programme is organized by Perpetuum Mobile (PM) as part of the Artists at Risk (AR)-Network in partnership with UNESCO and with the support of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Teiger Foundation.
