Art practitioners are targets of persecution in great parts of the world. This new network for “Immigré Artists and Artists at Risk” interlinks partners’ engagements with art practitioners in need of a “safe haven” from repressive countries of origin, and opens a gateway for “immigré” art practitioners – those already within the Nordic Region – enabling their entrance into professional artistic life. The partners in the network are co-developing new structures, tools and procedures for hosting the incoming wealth of talent, while raising awareness of the unique experiences and art they can offer society at large.

In these ways, the “Immigré Artists and Artists at Risk” network is designed not only to broaden but to deepen partnerships between parallel and complementary institutions in the Nordic region. It has emerged out of multiple initiatives, programmes and a growing institutional awareness among a diverse set of Nordic partners. Each has its own strengths and plans locally and internationally, and this Nordic network will encourage learning from each other’s practices and developing cooperative projects.

The “Immigré Artists and Artists at Risk” is a four-year network project, founded in 2017 and set to conclude in 2020. Network partners among others: ArtLab Gnesta, Unicorn Artists in Solidarity (Malmö), Kunsthall 3.14 (Bergen), The Finnish National Theatre – Kansallisteatteri, Birta Gudjonsdottir and Berglind Jóna Hlynsdóttir (Reykjavik), Radar Sofia, Konvent Puntzero (Catalonia) and #NoCallerem (Catalonia).
